Letter of congratulations from His Eminence Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain

February 05, 2014

As Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain, I congratulate the Greek Orthodox Community of St. Andrew the First-Called Apostle in Weston-super-Mare and District on its decision to set up a website in the name of the church and Community.

Ready and immediate access to information concerning our Faith, Traditions and Activities (both of the worshipping Community and of the School) is something that is to be encouraged - and I am sure that every effort will be made to ensure that the information provided there is accurate and up-to-date, constructive and helpful for those who happen to read it..

Our Mother Church, the Patriarchate of Constantinople, has for many years maintained a website that has proved to be a source of information for millions of Orthodox Christians throughout the world. The same is true of many of its Dioceses, whose 'sites' provide detailed information that is not readily available elsewhere as well as material of a spiritually-uplifting nature.

The Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain maintains a website that has proved to be a useful tool for both the Orthodox Faithful and for others seeking information about the life, history and activities of our Church in this country. It currently receives well-over a thousand 'hits' a week.

I am sure that the website of our Community in Weston-super-Mare will be of use to the Greek Orthodox Faithful living in the area (or, indeed, far from it), keeping them aware of the life of their Community and answering such questions relating to times of services, meetings, activities and its life in general. It goes without saying that whatever is published must be prepared carefully and checked in order for it to be useful - like the 'salt' of faith in the Triune God. It will also give the opportunity for its users to read items of spiritual edification and news from the Community and School.

The website will also benefit those people who are interested in the Orthodox Faith, perhaps being the first point-of-call and achieving a result which will be life-changing. This is because of the great interest currently being shown in the Faith, Saints and Traditions of our Church.

Assuring you of my support for your activities and invoking upon all those who labour for the success of the website and all those who read it the blessing of the Triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - I remain. With best wishes for the New Year 2P14 and love in Christ our Incarnate.
